I'm ready for the new year, ready to be as creative, productive, and self-motivated as possible. Having graduated back in May 2011 I'm embarking on a new part of my life. I no longer know what I'm doing more than a week in advanced it seems. I no longer have grades to work towards as my ultimate goal. My only boss is myself and now I'm the goal maker. I'm scared and I'm thrilled to be doing what I'm doing. 2012 is going to be a busy year for me. I have plans to make a bunch of new illustrations, travel to Florida, possibly New York City, rework my website, design a mailer to send to art directors, and maybe move to a new city in the Summer.
I'm also really looking forward to the future of The State of Shapes, the creative collective that I am apart of. It keeps growing and is an avenue for all of us creative folk apart of it to learn more about the business side of what we do together. We are learning how to manage money, how to keep group projects on track, how to deal with clients that aren't so pleasant to work with, how to advertise and promote ourselves, how to write up contracts and invoices, and what business strategies we need to follow to be successful and legitimate.
Here were the main highlights of my 2011: • First solo art show at Gallery Pump Project • Graduated with a BFA in Drawing and one in Communication Design • Moved into an 150 year old apartment above what use to be a bank • Designed and coded this website • Co-founded the creative collective The State of Shapes • First published editorial illustration • 375 Tweets • 110 Instagram Photos • 20 Paintings • 13 Shots on Dribbble • 12 Sales on Etsy • 10 Blog Posts
So heres to a wonderful 2011 and to a new, productive, and creative 2012. Cheers!
